Jewels of the Adriatic

From the canals of Venice we enter Croatia and visit historic Pula. Nestled on the shores of the eastern Adriatic Pula possesses many magnificently preserved Roman ruins including an imposing 1st Century AD amphitheatre a worthy rival to Rome's Colosseum. Travelling now northeast we enter Slovenia, almost without peer in Europe for natural beauty, and base ourselves in her classy and cosmopolitan capital - Ljubljana. A day of scenic delights follows as we explore beautiful Lake Bohinj before descending upon one of Europe's most sublime locations - Lake Bled where the included traditional 'Pletna' boat ride to Bled Island is sure to be a treasured memory. The ice blue lakes and cascading waterfalls of Croatia's Plitvice National Park our our next highlight. We explore this natural phenomenon by foot on the network of wooden pathways that spread out like spiders webs across this watery wonderland. Two days in the charming medieval walled city of Zadar give us plenty of time to explore and view its famed sunset that so impressed VIP visitor Ernest Hemmingway he called it the world's finest. Continuing south to our base at Split, a coastal city that Roman Emperor Diocletian made his home in the 3rd Century AD, our trip over the next week takes on a slightly more adventurous flavour. We combine scenic boat trips with walking and cycling excursions to explore the Dalmatian Coastal islands of Brac, Hvar and Lokrum. We spend two days exploring Croatia's most beautiful island - the verdant pristine delights of Mjlet National Park by cycle, boat and canoe. Our glorious conclusion comes in the form of two nights in magical Dubrovnik.
